Childhood Memories
Joanne's earliest memory was when her father was reading "The Wind and the Willows". She has measles at that time. Because of her exposure to literature with fantasy she has a good imagination. She was dreaming of different stories keeping it all to herself. Joanne had a sister named Di. She was 2 years younger than Joanne. When Joanne was 5 years old she told her story to Di. She told Di about a stories of rabbits. Joanne was encouraged by her sister Di to write down the story. Joanne wrote about a story of a rabbit whose name is Rabbit who had measles. Rabbit was visited by his friends and Miss Bee. Joanne also tried to write a novel. She wrote the "Seven Cursed Diamonds". When she was a child it was a novel for her but now it is actually a very long short story.
Joanne's favorite books was "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge. Manxmouse by Paul Gallico and the Naria Books C.S Lewis. She liked the authors E. Nesbit.She liked Noel Streatfeild. When she was 8 years old she liked Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. In her older years, she liked Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. She also liked Vanity Fair by W.M Thackeray and Hons and Rebels by Jessica Mitford.
Joanne studied at Tutshill Primary School. First thing in the morning they were given a test about fractions. She doesn't even done fractions before. The teacher placed her far right. She discovered that she was placed in a "dim" row. Joanne studied, and by the end of the year she was promoted second left. But she swapped seat with her best friend.
After Joanne graduated, she studied at Wyedean Comprehensive. It was quite hard for her because she wore glasses because she is short-sighted. She was also quiet, freckly, and rubbish at sports. Joanne became famous for a time because she fought with the toughest girl in her grade. She said that she would prefer to run than to fight but she doesn't have a choice. She became famous because she wasn't flatten Joanne was made Head Girl in her final year. There was a requirement that the Head Girl will speak to the whole school. Joanne decided to play a record to cut down time. The record was scratched right in the middle and began skipping and repeating. The deputy mistress came out on stage and kicked it.
Joanne studied college at Exeter University. Her parents suggested to their daughter to study French and Literature. This will lead to a career as a bilingual legal secretary. Joanne took the advice of her parents. It was needed for her too go to Paris to use French language in a practical setting. Joanne had a relationship. She graduated with honors. She also drifted from his boyfriend.
Joanne spent 2 years researching human rights violation for Amnesty International. She also worked for Manchester Chamber of Commerce. She took the job because her boyfriend wanted to see her again.
She was on a train from Manchester to London. The train suddenly came into a halt because there was a mechanical problem. Joanne stared at the cows out the window. It was an odd sight. Joanne saw the idea of Harry and the wizard school. Joanne wanted to jot it down but she doesn't have a pen or paper. She just played it in her memory. As soon she reached her house she wrote the story.
Her mother died at the age of 45 because of Multiple Sclerosis. She went to Portugal at 1990 to work as a teacher. She would teach English as a Second language. She was liked by her students. Joanne also fell in love. He met a journalist in Portugal. Months passed and they were married. At 1993 Jessica was born. But because of the busy work of her husband, the kindness and time that Joanne saw from him wasn't given. They divorced. She decided to return to London. She was depressed being a single mother with a child. She went to Edinburgh, Scotland, where her sister lives. She told about Harry Potter to Di. She decided to finish the book and be published. Joanne was forced to unemployment. She was also forced to fill for public assistance. Because of having a "flat room" Joanne thought of something she and Jessica would be happy. She would walk Jessica in her carrier after she fell asleep she would go to a cafe. She would buy and write there. After she had finished her story, she looked for an agent. She typed two copies of her work and sent it to 2 of her agents. Joanne looked for a job in Edinburgh as a teacher of French at Leth Academy and then to Moray House Training College. The letter from the agent came. It wasn't a rejection letter and she was paid. The agent was Christopher Little. In 1996, Bloomsbury decided to publish the book. Editorial Director, Arthur A. Levine had a risk in an auction to publish it.
